@inproceedings{fdi:010072143, title = {{S}easonal variability of phytoplankton composition inside and outside the {M}arine {P}rotected {A}reas of {J}oal-{F}adiouth and {B}amboung in {S}enegal ({W}est {A}frica) [r{\'e}sum{\'e}]}, author = {{A}bdou {S}alam, {A}.{M}. and {B}a, {N}. and {N}dour, {I}. and {T}hiaw, {M}. and {B}rehmer, {P}atrice}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{M}arine {P}rotected {A}reas ({MPA}s) are considered tools for biodiversity and resource restoration and resilience. {H}owever, their role in improving the flow of matter through better productivity remains to be demonstrated. {T}he present study aims to analyze the phytoplankton composition inside and outside two contrasted {MPA}s; {J}oal-{F}adiouth (coastal) and {B}amboung (estuary) at dry cold and wet hot seasons. {D}ata were collected with plankton net of 20 ?m net mesh in {A}pril and {S}eptember 2016. {I}n the laboratory, by optical microscopy, the phytoplankton species were identified at the lowest possible taxonomic level by comparison of our data with those of taxonomy works. {A} total of 101 species belonging to 30 families were identified in the {B}amboung {MPA}, compared with 98 species of 28 families in the {J}oal-{F}adiouth {MPA}. {I}n the latter {MPA}, the number of species was higher (40 species of 19 families) inside than outside (30 species of 18 families) the {MPA} in {A}pril i.e. the cold season. {I}n {S}eptember, i.e. the hot season, the number of species was higher (62 species of 16 families) outside than inside (50 species of 14 families). {A}s for the {B}amboung {MPA}, whatever the season (cold and hot), the number of species was respectively higher inside (58 species of 28 families and 61 species of 20 families) than outside (30 species of 18 families and 58 species of 20 families). {H}owever, even if both {MPA}s present similitude for the taxonomical composition, characteristic species of each environment have been encountered: {E}ucampia sp and {S}tephanopyxis pelagica in estuarine {B}amboung {MPA} and {P}lagiogramma sp, {P}odocystis sp, {M}elosira sp and {R}habdonemma sp only encountered in {J}oal-{F}adiouth (marine environment). {T}hree species and / or groups of harmful algae blooms ({HAB}s), {P}seudonitzschia serieta in {J}oal-{F}adiouth, {P}rorocentrium lima in {B}amboung and {P}seudonitzschia sp in both {MPA}s, were also encountered.}, keywords = {{AFRIQUE} {DE} {L}'{OUEST} ; {SENEGAL} ; {ATLANTIQUE}}, numero = {}, pages = {118}, booktitle = {{I}nternational conference {ICAWA} 2016 : extended book of abstract : the {AWA} project : ecosystem approach to the management of fisheries and the marine environment in {W}est {A}frican waters}, year = {2017}, ISBN = {978-2-9553602-0-5}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010072143}, }
