@inproceedings{fdi:010072140, title = {{R}eproductive parameters of a catfish ({A}rius latiscutatus {G}ünther, 1864) inside and outside the {B}amboung {M}arine {P}rotected {A}rea ({S}aloum {D}elta), {S}enegal [r{\'e}sum{\'e}]}, author = {{D}iouf, {K}.{D}. and {G}oudiaby, {K}.{D}. and {N}dione, {M}.{D}. and {D}iadhiou, {H}.{D}. and {N}diaye, {P}. and {J}ouffre, {D}idier}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he reproduction of {A}rius latiscutatus ({G}ünther, 1864) was studied both inside and outside of the {B}amboung marine protected area ({MPA}) ({S}aloum {D}elta) in {S}enegal, from individuals collected monthly from {A}pril 2015 to {M}arch 2016. {T}he reproductive parameters were quantified from the macroscopic examination of the gonads and from the counting and measurement of the oocytes. {T}he monthly variation of the condition factor was similar at both sites. {T}he strongest condition coefficients were observed during the two major seasons (cold and warm) and the lowest during the transition period (warm - cold). {A}. latiscutatus had only one breeding season from {M}arch to {J}uly. {S}ize at first sexual maturity varied by gender and site: 400 mm for females and 448 mm for males inside the {MPA}, and 419 mm for females and 375 mm for males outside. {A}bsolute fecundity was 29 ± 14 oocytes and relative fecundity 0.024 ± 0.007 oocytes per gram within the {MPA}. {O}utside, absolute fecundity was 22 ± 10 oocytes and relative fecundity 0.027 ± 0.005 oocytes per gram. {T}he {MPA} appeared to be the privileged spawning area of the species, an area where reproductive activity would be more intense and fertility higher. {A}dditional analyzes based on a larger sample and integrating other parameters such as age estimation, growth and diet, will allow to complement these initial results and to specify the impact of the reserve on the biological parameters of the species but also to have a global knowledge of its life traits.}, keywords = {{SENEGAL} ; {ATLANTIQUE}}, numero = {}, pages = {113}, booktitle = {{I}nternational conference {ICAWA} 2016 : extended book of abstract : the {AWA} project : ecosystem approach to the management of fisheries and the marine environment in {W}est {A}frican waters}, year = {2017}, ISBN = {978-2-9553602-0-5}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010072140}, }
