@article{fdi:010071945, title = {{D}esulfovibrio senegalensis sp nov., a mesophilic sulfate reducer isolated from marine sediment}, author = {{T}hioye, {A}. and {B}en {A}li {G}am, {Z}. and {M}bengue, {M}. and {C}ayoi, {J}. {L}. and {J}oseph-{B}artoii, {M}. and {T}our{\'e}-{K}ane, {C}. and {L}abat, {M}arc}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{S}everal strains of sulfate-reducing bacteria were isolated from marine sediments recovered from {H}ann {B}ay ({S}enegal). {A}ll were related to members of the genus {D}esulfovibrio. {A} strictly anaerobic, mesophilic and moderately halophilic strain designated {BL}a{C}1({T}) was further characterized. {C}ells of strain {BL}a{C}1({T}) stained {G}ram-negative and were 0.5 mu m wide and 2-4 mu m long, motile, rod-shaped and non-spore-forming. {T}he four major fatty acids were anteiso-{C}-15 (: 0), iso-{C}-15 (: 0), iso-{C}-17 (:) (0) and anteiso-{C}-17 : 0. {G}rowth was observed from 15 to 45 degrees {C} (optimum 40 degrees {C}) and at p{H} 5.5-8 (optimum p{H} 7.5). {T}he salinity range for growth was 5-65 g {N}a{C}l l(-1) (optimum 30 g l(-1)). {Y}east extract was required for growth. {S}train {BL}a{C}1({T}) was able to grow on lactate and acetate in the presence of sulfate as an electron acceptor. {S}ulfate, thiosulfate and sulfite could serve as terminal electron acceptors, but not fumarate, nitrate or elemental sulfur. {T}he {DNA} {G}+{C} content was 55.8 mol%. 16{S} r{RNA} gene sequence analysis assigned strain {BL}a{C}1({T}) to the family {D}esulfovibrionaceae; its closest relative was {D}esulfovibrio oxyclinae {DSM} 19275({T}) (93.7 % similarity). {O}n the basis of 16{S} r{RNA} gene sequence comparisons and physiological characteristics, strain {BL}a{C}1({T}) is proposed as representing a novel species of {D}esulfovibrio, with the name {D}esulfovibrio senegalensis sp. nov. {T}he type strain is {BL}a{C}1({T}) (={DSM} 101509({T})={JCM} 31063({T})).}, keywords = {{D}esulfovibrio senegalensis ; sulfate reducer ; marine ; sediment ; {S}enegal ; {SENEGAL} ; {HANN} {BAIE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{I}nternational {J}ournal of {S}ystematic and {E}volutionary {M}icrobiology}, volume = {67}, numero = {9}, pages = {3162--3166}, ISSN = {1466-5026}, year = {2017}, DOI = {10.1099/ijsem.0.001997}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010071945}, }
