@article{fdi:010071459, title = {{C}haracterization of {D}esulfovibrio biadhensis sp. nov., isolated from a thermal spring}, author = {{F}adhlaoui, {K}. and {B}en {H}ania, {W}. and {P}ostec, {A}. and {F}auque, {G}. and {H}amdi, {M}. and {O}llivier, {B}ernard and {F}ardeau, {M}arie-{L}aure}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A} novel anaerobic, mesophilic, slightly halophilic sulfate-reducing bacterium, designated strain {K}haled {BD}4({T}), was isolated from waters of a {T}unisian thermal spring. {C}ells were vibrio-shaped or sigmoids (5-7x1-1.5 mu m) and occurred singly or in pairs. {S}train {K}haled {BD}4({T}) was {G}ram-stain-negative, motile and non-sporulated. {I}t grew at 25-45 degrees {C} (optimum 37 degrees {C}), at p{H} 5.5-8.3 (optimum p{H} 7.0) and with 0.5-8% {N}a{C}l (optimum 3%). {I}t required vitamins or yeast extract for growth. {S}ulfate, thiosulfate, sulfite and elemental sulfur served as terminal electron acceptors, but not fumarate, nitrate or nitrite. {S}train {K}haled {BD}4({T}) utilized {H}-2 in the presence of 2 m{M} acetate (carbon source), but also lactate, formate, pyruvate and fumarate in the presence of sulfate. {L}actate was incompletely oxidized to acetate. {A}mongst substrates used, only pyruvate was fermented. {D}esulfoviridin and c-type cytochrome were present. {T}he {G}+{C} content of the {DNA} was 54.6 mol%. {T}he main fatty acids were anteiso-{C}-15:0, iso-{C}-18:0, iso-{C}-17:0 and iso-{C}-14:0. {P}hylogenetic analysis of the 16{S} r{RNA} gene sequence indicated that strain {K}haled {BD}4({T}) had {D}esulfovibrio giganteus {DSM} 4123({T}) (96.7% similarity) as its closest phylogenetic relative. {O}n the basis of 16{S} r{RNA} gene sequence comparisons together with genetic and physiological characteristics, strain {K}haled {BD}4({T}) is assigned to a novel bacterial species, for which the name {D}esulfovibrio biadhensis sp. nov. is proposed. {T}he type strain is {K}haled {BD}4({T}) (={DSM} 28904({T})={JCM} 30146({T})).}, keywords = {{TUNISIE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{I}nternational {J}ournal of {S}ystematic and {E}volutionary {M}icrobiology}, volume = {65}, numero = {4}, pages = {1256--1261}, ISSN = {1466-5026}, year = {2015}, DOI = {10.1099/ijs.0.000088}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010071459}, }
