@article{fdi:010071387, title = {{E}xploring the genetic diversity of shallow-water {A}gariciidae ({C}nidaria : {A}nthozoa) from the {S}audi {A}rabian {R}ed {S}ea}, author = {{T}erraneo, {T}. {I}. and {A}rrigoni, {R}. and {B}enzoni, {F}rancesca and {T}ietbohl, {M}. {D}. and {B}erumen, {M}. {L}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{S}cleractinian corals ascribed to the family {A}gariciidae represent an important component of {R}ed {S}ea coral reef fauna, though little genetic data are currently available for this group, and existing information shows polyphyly in the examined mesophotic taxa from the {P}acific {O}cean. {I}n this work, we provide a first genetic survey of {A}gariciidae from the {S}audi {A}rabian {R}ed {S}ea, based on a collection of shallow-water material (< 30 m) from the {G}ulf of {A}qaba to the {F}arasan {I}slands. {T}wo molecular markers were sequenced to infer morphospecies monophyly and relationships, the intergenic region between {COI} and 16{S} r{RNA} from mitochondrial {DNA} and the ribosomal {ITS}1 region from nuclear {DNA}. {A} total of 20 morphospecies were identified based on classical macromorphological characters. {S}ix, namely {G}ardineroseris planulata, {P}avona maldivensis, {P}avona clavus, {P}avona decussata, {L}eptoseris fragilis, and {L}eptoseris yabei, were resolved with both {DNA} loci. {T}he molecular boundaries among the remaining 14 species remain unclear. {O}ur results further confirm that the morphology-based taxonomy of most agariciid species is in disagreement with genetics. {I}n order to disentangle the systematics of these taxa, the inclusion of more sampling locations, additional variable loci, and a micromophological approach are likely needed. {O}ur genetic data represent a first step towards the comparison of biodiversity and connectivity between the {R}ed {S}ea and the rest of the {I}ndo-{P}acific.}, keywords = {{C}oral ; {S}ystematics ; {B}iodiversity ; {IGR} ; {ITS} ; {P}hylogenetics ; {DNA} taxonomy ; {ARABIE} {SAOUDITE} ; {MER} {ROUGE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{M}arine {B}iodiversity}, volume = {47}, numero = {4}, pages = {1065--1078}, ISSN = {1867-1616}, year = {2017}, DOI = {10.1007/s12526-017-0722-3}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010071387}, }
