  abstract = {{D}uring travel made in {F}ebruary and {M}arch 1882 in the former {F}rench {P}rotectorate of {C}{\^o}te d'{O}r (southeastern {I}vory {C}oast), {M}r {C}haper, who had previously sent numerous specimens to the {P}aris {N}atural {H}istory {M}useum ({M}us{\'e}um national d'{H}istoire naturelle, {R}eptiles & {A}mphibiens; {MNHN}-{RA}), collected about 19 reptiles (and one python egg) belonging to 12 species. {A}ll those specimens were deposited in the {MNHN}-{RA} collections. {A}mong them some specimens were described as a new species, {E}uprepes chaperi, in two separate publications reporting on that collection published in the same year by {V}aillant (1884a,b), head of the {Z}oology ({R}eptiles and {F}ishes) {L}aboratory at {P}aris {N}atural {H}istory {M}useum. {T}he status of that species was not recently reviewed and several options are reported in literature including validity of the species (in the genus {L}ygosoma {H}ardwicke & {G}ray) or synonymy, sometimes simultaneously in the same data base (see {U}etz & {H}osek, 2016). {W}e here locate the type series of {E}. chaperi and carefully check their identity.},
