@article{fdi:010069285, title = {{F}oreland exhumation controlled by crustal thickening in the {W}estern {A}lps}, author = {{S}chwartz, {S}. and {G}autheron, {C}. and {A}udin, {L}aurence and {D}umont, {T}. and {N}omade, {J}. and {B}arbarand, {J}. and {P}inna-{J}amme, {R}. and van der {B}eek, {P}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{I}n alpine-type collision belts, deformation of the foreland may occur as a result of forward propagation of thrusting and is generally associated with thin-skinned deformation mobilizing the sedimentary cover in fold-and-thrust belts. {L}ocally, foreland deformation can involve crustal-scale thrusting and produce large-scale exhumation of crystalline basement resulting in significant relief generation. {I}n this study, we investigate the burial and exhumation history of {T}ertiary flexural basins located in the {W}estern {A}lpine foreland, at the front of the {D}igne thrust sheet (southeast {F}rance), using low-temperature apatite fission-track and ({U}-{T}h)/{H}e thermochronology. {B}ased on the occurrence of partially to totally reset ages, we document 3.3-4.0 km of burial of these basin remnants between ca. 12 {M}a and 6 {M}a, related to thinskinned thrust-sheet emplacement without major relief generation. {T}he onset of exhumation is dated at ca. 6 {M}a and is linked to erosion associated with significant relief development. {T}his evolution does not appear to have been controlled by major climate changes ({M}essinian crisis) or by {E}uropean slab breakoff. {R}ather, we propose that the erosional history of the {D}igne thrust sheet corresponds to basement involvement in foreland deformation, leading to crustal thickening. {O}ur study highlights the control of deep-crustal tectonic processes on foreland relief development and its erosional response at mountain fronts.}, keywords = {{FRANCE} ; {ALPES}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{G}eology}, volume = {45}, numero = {2}, pages = {139--142}, ISSN = {0091-7613}, year = {2017}, DOI = {10.1130/g38561.1}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010069285}, }
