@article{fdi:010068695, title = {{P}revalence of chronic hepatitis {B} virus infection in {T}hailand : a systematic review and meta-analysis}, author = {{L}eroi, {C}harline and {A}dam, {P}. and {K}hamduang, {W}. and {K}awilapat, {S}. and {N}go-{G}iang-{H}uong, {N}icole and {O}ngwandee, {S}. and {J}iamsiri, {S}. and {J}ourdain, {G}onzague}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{O}bjective: {T}o estimate the number of people living in {T}hailand with chronic hepatitis {B} ({CHB}), a major cause of liver cirrhosis and cancer, in view of the implementation of programs to prevent {CHB} complications. {M}ethods: {U}sing {P}ub{M}ed/{M}edline and {S}cience{D}irect, all studies reporting hepatitis {B} surface antigen ({HB}s{A}g) seroprevalence estimates conducted in {T}hailand and published between 1975 and 2015 were reviewed systematically. {P}ooled prevalence estimates and their 95% confidence intervals ({CI}s) were calculated, and potential sources of heterogeneity investigated. {R}esults: {A} high heterogeneity was observed between prevalence estimates. {T}here was a significant decrease in the 150 estimates of {HB}s{A}g prevalence with more recent decades of birth (p < 0.001), even before the implementation of the national universal immunization program in 1992. {W}hen restricted to the general population, the pooled prevalence estimate was 5.1% (95% {CI} 4.3-6.0%), which would translate to an estimated number of individuals with {CHB} living in {T}hailand in 2015 as high as three million. {C}onclusions: {T}he high burden of {CHB} in {A}sian countries is a major challenge for the incorporation of national programs to prevent {CHB} complications within health care systems.}, keywords = {{C}hronic hepatitis {B} ; {H}epatitis {B} surface antigen ; {M}eta-analysis ; {P}revalence ; {T}hailand ; {THAILANDE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{I}nternational {J}ournal of {I}nfectious {D}iseases}, volume = {51}, numero = {}, pages = {36--43}, ISSN = {1201-9712}, year = {2016}, DOI = {10.1016/j.ijid.2016.08.017}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010068695}, }
