@article{fdi:010068100, title = {{C}omposition and bioactivity of {P}luchea carolinensis ({J}ack.) {G}. essential oil from {M}artinique}, author = {{K}erdudo, {A}. and {G}onnot, {V}. and {E}llong, {E}. {N}. and {B}oyer, {L}. and {C}handre, {F}abrice and {A}denet, {S}. and {R}ochefort, {K}. and {M}ichel, {T}. and {F}ernandez, {X}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{P}luchea carolinensis ({J}acq.) {G}. {D}on ({A}steraceae) is a plant species still widely used in the popular medicine of {C}aribbean region. {T}he present work describes the chemical composition of essential oil of {P}. carolinensis leaves and flowers from {M}artinique {I}sland and first exploration of its antimicrobial and insecticide activities. {T}he chemical analysis using {GC}/{FID} and {GC}-{MS} of essential oils of {P}. carolinensis flowers and leaves led to the identification of 44 constituents representing 64.6-84.2 % of the extracts. {T}he major identified components in aerial parts were selin-11-en-4 alpha-ol (17.7-33.4 %), beta-caryophyllene (5.5-21.1 %), 2,5-dimethoxycymene (8.9-3.3 %), caryophyllene oxide (6.6-3.3 %), alpha-pinene (4.7 %) and spathulenol (3.8-3.1 %). {F}urthermore, two carvotanacetone derivatives were for the first time identified from the aerial parts of {P}. carolinensis: 5-angeloyloxycarvotagetone (2.9-18.1 % of abundance in oils) and the new carvotanacetone 5-isovaleroyloxycarvotagetone (1.2-7.0 % of abundance in oils). {T}heir structures were elucidated based on {NMR} and {HRMS} data. {E}ssential oil of {P}. carolinensis exhibited an antimicrobial activity against {A}spergillus niger, {C}andida albicans, {S}taphylococcus aureus and {B}acillus cereus. {I}nsecticidal assays against {A}edes aegypti showed an interesting repellent activity at 1.0 % and a high irritating activity at 0.1 % against mosquitoes. {T}hus the essential oil from {P}. carolinensis aerial parts can be considered as new source of natural ingredient for pharmaceutical and cosmetical industries.}, keywords = {{P}luchea carolinensis ; {E}ssential oil ; {C}arvotanacetone derivatives ; {A}ntimicrobial activity ; {I}nsecticide ; {A}edes aegypti ; {MARTINQUE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{I}ndustrial {C}rops and {P}roducts}, volume = {89}, numero = {}, pages = {295--302}, ISSN = {0926-6690}, year = {2016}, DOI = {10.1016/j.indcrop.2016.04.076}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010068100}, }
