@article{fdi:010066057, title = {{P}otential application of macroinvertebrates indices in bioassessment of {M}exican streams}, author = {{B}alderas, {E}. {C}. {S}. and {G}rac, {C}. and {B}erti-{E}quille, {L}aure and {H}ernandez, {M}. {A}. {A}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{B}iomonitoring of surface waters using benthic macroinvertebrates is a common practice in developed countries. {H}owever, the use of biomonitoring metrics as part of regular monitoring programs in developing countries is scarce. {T}his study is aimed at identifying the macroinvertebrate-based monitoring approaches which can be potentially applied to assess the ecological status of {M}exican streams, and to provide guidelines and practical tools to implement such approaches. {I}n this study, a total of 35 biomonitoring metrics were selected, divided into the following classes: 5 metrics of richness, 11 metrics to list the macroinvertebrates organisms (enumeration metrics), 6 diversity and similarity indices, 7 biotic indices, 5 functional feeding metrics and 1 multimetric approach. {T}his selection was made using the a posteriori approach. {C}haracteristics such as: sensitivity, ecological relevance, representativity, feasibility, metric interpretation, performance, and geographical suitability were also taken into consideration during the selection process. {A} description of the sampling and analytical procedures necessary to compute the selected metrics are also described. {W}e provide an inventory of macroinvertebrate metrics that could be used in {M}exico and nearby areas. {H}owever, further work is required to determine the accuracy and performance of these metrics for ecological assessment of {M}exican streams.}, keywords = {{M}acroinvertebrate-based monitoring metrics ; {M}exican streams ; {B}iotic indices ; {IBI}-{W}est central {M}exico ; {B}iomonitoring metrics ; {MEXIQUE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{E}cological {I}ndicators}, volume = {61}, numero = {2}, pages = {558--567}, ISSN = {1470-160{X}}, year = {2016}, DOI = {10.1016/j.ecolind.2015.10.007}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010066057}, }
