  abstract = {{P}reviously confused with the small giant clam {T}ridacna maxima, the recently resurrected {N}oah's giant clam, {T}ridacna noae, has been reported from the {T}aiwanese and the {R}yukyu archipelagoes. {O}ur recent underwater observations now extend its distribution to {D}ongsha (northern {S}outh {C}hina {S}ea), {B}unaken ({S}ulawesi {S}ea), {M}adang and {K}avieng ({B}ismarck {S}ea), the {A}lor archipelago ({S}awu {S}ea), {K}osrae ({C}aroline {I}slands), {N}ew {C}aledonia, the {L}oyalty {I}slands and {V}anuatu ({C}oral {S}ea), {V}iti-{L}evu ({F}iji), {W}allis {I}sland, and {K}iritimati ({N}orthern {L}ine {I}slands). {P}ublished mitochondrial {DNA} sequences retrieved from open-access databases also indicate its presence in eastern {N}egros ({P}hilippines), in the {M}olucca {S}ea, at {N}ingaloo {R}eef ({W}estern {A}ustralia), and in the {S}olomon {I}slands. {N}oah's giant clam is thus a widely distributed {I}ndo-{W}est {P}acific species. {W}herever research has been done on small giant clams throughout {T}. noae's range, the inadvertent confusion of {T}. noae with {T}. maxima might have led to overestimating actual {T}. maxima densities and to errors in estimating demographic parameters.},
