@article{fdi:010064023, title = {{C}haracterization of a novel clade of {X}anthomonas isolated from rice leaves in {M}ali and proposal of {X}anthomonas maliensis sp. nov.}, author = {{T}riplett, {L}. {R}. and {V}erdier, {V}al{\'e}rie and {C}ampillo, {T}. and {V}an {M}alderghem, {C}. and {C}leenwerck, {I}. and {M}aes, {M}. and {D}eblais, {L}. and {C}orral, {R}. and {K}oita, {O}. and {C}ottyn, {B}. and {L}each, {J}. {E}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{F}our bacterial strains, designated {M}89, {M}92, {M}97({T}), and {M}106, were isolated in a previous study from surface-sterilized leaves of rice ({O}ryza sativa) or murainagrass ({I}schaemum rugosum) at three sites in {M}ali, {A}frica. {H}ere they were examined by a polyphasic taxonomic approach and analysis of a whole-genome sequence. {P}hylogenetic analyses based on 16{S} r{RNA} sequence and multilocus sequence analysis of seven genes showed that these four strains formed a distinct lineage representing a novel species within the genus {X}anthomonas. {T}his was supported by whole-genome average nucleotide identity values calculated from comparisons of strain {M}97({T}) with established {X}anthomonas species. {T}he strains can be differentiated from the known {X}anthomonas species on the basis of their fatty acid and carbohydrate utilization profiles. {P}opulation growth studies on rice confirmed that these bacteria multiply in rice leaves without causing symptoms. {I}dentification of this novel species can be accomplished by using diagnostic primer sets or by gyr{B} gene sequence analysis. {W}e propose to classify these rice- and grass-associated bacteria as {X}anthomonas maliensis sp. nov. with strain {M}97({T}) = {CFBP}7942({T}) = {LMG}27592({T}) as the type strain.}, keywords = {{X}anthomonas ; {MLSA} ; {O}ryza sativa ; {ANI} ; {MALI}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{A}ntonie {V}an {L}eeuwenhoek {I}nternational {J}ournal of {G}eneral and {M}olecular {M}icrobiology}, volume = {107}, numero = {4}, pages = {869--881}, ISSN = {0003-6072}, year = {2015}, DOI = {10.1007/s10482-015-0379-5}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010064023}, }
