@article{fdi:010063919, title = {{R}epr{\'e}sentations et v{\'e}cu de l'h{\'e}patite {B} de patients subsahariens en {C}{\^o}te d'{I}voire et en {F}rance = {R}epresentations and disease experience of hepatitis {B} by {S}ub-{S}aharan patients in {I}vory {C}oast and {F}rance}, author = {{P}ourette, {D}olores and {E}nel, {C}.}, editor = {}, language = {{FRE}}, abstract = {{O}bjective: {H}epatitis {B}, a major public health problem in {A}frica and among {S}ub-{S}aharan populations living in {F}rance, remains poorly characterized and insufficiently managed. {T}wo social sciences studies in {A}bidjan ({C}ote d'{I}voire) and {I}le-de-{F}rance investigated representations of hepatitis {B} and attitudes towards medical care among chronic hepatitis {B} carriers. {C}omparison of the two studies raises the question of the role of different settings of access to care in the relationship towards disease and medical care. {M}ethods: {I}n {A}bidjan, the study was conducted with 14 patients at the {U}niversity {H}ospital and the blood donor monitoring medical centre ({C}entre medical de suivi des donneurs de sang). {I}n {I}le-de-{F}rance, it was conducted among 33 chronic carriers in two hospital departments. {T}he method was qualitative, using semi-structured interviews and consultation observations. {R}esults: {T}he comparison showed similarities and differences. {S}imilarities exclusively concerned representations of hepatitis {B}, ignorance of the disease, and the negatively-charged association with {HIV}, linked in particular to the lack of collective mobilization on issues relating to hepatitis {B} in {A}frica and {F}rance. {D}ifferences concerned patients' attitudes towards medical follow-up and screening of close relatives, which are determined by the radically different funding conditions between the two sites. {G}iven the lack of universal health insurance in {I}vory {C}oast, patients with chronic hepatitis {B} experience difficulties of access to medical care. {C}onclusion: {T}hese studies emphasize the need for awareness campaigns on hepatitis {B} and information about conditions of management of chronic hepatitis {B} carriers in {S}ub-{S}aharan {A}frica.}, keywords = {{A}ttitudes to health ; {I}vory {C}oast ; {H}ealthcare disparities ; {E}migrants and ; immigrants ; {F}rance ; {H}epatitis {B} ; {S}ocial perception ; {FRANCE} ; {COTE} {D}'{IVOIRE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{S}ant{\'e} {P}ublique}, volume = {26}, numero = {6}, pages = {869--878}, ISSN = {0995-3914}, year = {2014}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010063919}, }
