@article{fdi:010061867, title = {{M}icrodistribution of the resistance of malaria vectors to deltamethrin in the region of {P}lateau (southeastern {B}enin) in preparation for an assessment of the impact of resistance on the effectiveness of {L}ong {L}asting {I}nsecticidal {N}ets ({LLIN}s)}, author = {{S}ovi, {A}. and {D}jegbe, {I}. and {S}oumanou, {L}. and {T}okponnon, {F}. and {G}nanguenon, {V}. and {A}zondekon, {R}. and {O}ke-{A}gbo, {F}. and {O}ke, {M}. and {A}dechoubou, {A}. and {M}assougbodji, {A}. and {C}orbel, {V}incent and {A}kogbeto, {M}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{B}ackground: {T}his study aims to research two areas, one with a resistant and the other with a susceptible profile of {A}n. gambiae to deltamethrin in the region of {P}lateau (southern {B}enin). {I}n each area, eight localities were sought. {B}oth areas were needed for the assessment of the impact of malaria vector resistance to pyrethroids on the effectiveness of {L}ong {L}asting {I}nsecticidal {N}ets ({LLIN}s). {T}he susceptible area of {A}n. gambiae to deltamethrin was used as a control. {M}ethods: {I}n total, 119 localities in the region of {P}lateau were screened by sampling {A}n. gambiae s.l larvae. {F}emale mosquitoes resulting from these larvae were exposed to 0.05% deltamethrin following {WHO} standards. {PCR} was used to identify species and molecular forms of the dead and alive mosquitoes. {F}inally, we identified kdr mutations (1014 {F} and 1014{S}) using the {HOLA} technique. {R}esults: {F}ifty-six out of 119 prospected localities tested positive for {A}nopheles gambae s.l breeding sites. {T}he results showed that {A}n. gambiae was resistant to deltamethrin in 39 localities and susceptible in only 2 localities; resistance to deltamethrin was suspected in 15 localities. {T}he {HOLA} technique confirmed the presence of kdr 1014 {F} mutation and the absence of kdr 1014{S} mutation. {T}he kdr 1014 {F} mutation was found in both {M} and {S} molecular forms at relatively high frequencies therefore confirming the susceptibility tests. {C}onclusion: {W}e were unable to identify the eight susceptible areas due to the overall resistance of {A}n. gambiae to deltamethrin in the region of {P}lateau. {T}o implement the study, we kept two areas, one with high resistance ({R}+++) and the other with low resistance ({R}+) of {A}n. gambiae to deltamethrin.}, keywords = {{A}n. gambiae s.s ; {D}eltamethrin ; {I}nsecticide resistance ; kdr mutation ; {P}lateau ; {B}enin ; {BENIN}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{B}mc {I}nfectious {D}iseases}, volume = {14}, numero = {}, pages = {art. 103 [10 ]}, ISSN = {1471-2334}, year = {2014}, DOI = {10.1186/1471-2334-14-103}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010061867}, }
