  abstract = {{T}icks are obligate hematophagous arthropods that have a limited mobility, but can be transported over large geographical distances. by wild and domestic mammals and birds. {I}n this study, we analyze the presence of emerging zoonotic bacteria in ticks collected from passerine birds and mammals present in the {C}amargue, in the south of {F}rance, which is a major rallying point for birds migrating from {E}urasia and {A}frica. {T}he presence of {C}oxiella burnetii, {R}ickettsia, {B}orrelia, and {B}artonella was examined by real-time {PCR} on {DNA} samples extracted from 118 ticks. {R}ickettsia massiliae was detected in ticks from {P}asser domesticus, {R}i aeschlimannii in ticks from {A}crocephalus scirpaceus and {L}uscinia megarhynchos, and {B}orrelia valaisiana in one tick from {T}urdus merula. {I}n addition, {R}i. massiliae, {R}i. slovaca, {C}andidatus {R}i. barbariae, and {C} burnedi were detected in ticks from dogs, horses, cats, and humans. {N}o {B}artonella {DNA} was detected in these samples. {T}he migratory birds may play a role in the transmission of infectious diseases and contribute to the geographic distribution of {R}i. aeschlimannii, {B}o. valaisiana, and {C}. burnetii. {T}he role of birds in spreading {R}h. sanguineus ticks infected with {R}i. massiliae needs to be clarified by complementary studies. {T}his is the first detection of {C}andidatus {R}i. barbariae in {R}h. sanguineus from the south of {F}rance.},
