@article{fdi:010058860, title = {{O}ctavia sessiliflora {DC}. and {M}ussaenda glomerulata {L}am. ex {P}oir., two obscure taxa from {F}rench {G}uiana synonymous with members of the {A}libertia group ({R}ubiaceae, {G}ardenieae)}, author = {{D}elprete, {P}iero and {P}ersson, {C}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{D}uring the process of completing the {R}ubiaceae {J}uss. treatment for the {F}lora of the {G}uianas, two little-known taxa described from material collected in {F}rench {G}uiana, {M}ussaenda glomerulata {L}am. ex {P}oir. and {O}ctavia sessiliflora {DC}., needed to be studied in order to establish their true identity. {M}ussaenda glomerulata was first studied by {L}amarck and later published by {P}oiret (1797), based on specimens collected by {L}. {C}. {R}ichard; a specimen of {M}. glomerulata was found in the {L}amarck herbarium, which is here selected as lectotype. {M}ussaenda glomerulata was concluded to be synonymous with {A}maioua corymbosa {K}unth. {B}ecause {M} glomerulata has priority over {A}maioua corymbosa, the new combination {A}maioua glomerulata ({L}am. ex {P}oir.) {D}elprete & {C}. {P}ersson, comb. nov. is here proposed. {T}he obscure {O}ctavia {DC}. was published by {C}andolle based on specimens with ovaries and fruits. {A}fter a detailed analysis of the type specimens, we inferred that the flowers of {O}ctavia are always terminal, although sometimes they might appear axillary because of overtopping axillary shoots (pseudoaxillary). {A}dditionally, what {C}andolle interpreted as 8-merous fruits is a misinterpretation, and they are instead fleshy berries with eight seeds. {W}ith these new observations in mind, we concluded that {O}ctavia sessiliflora is synonymous with {C}ordiera triflora {A}.{R}ich in {DC}. {F}ull synonymy, typification of the taxa involved and representative specimens of this species are here presented.}, keywords = {{M}ussaenda ; {A}maioua ; {O}ctavia ; {C}ordiera ; {L}asianthus ; {G}ardenieae ; {L}asiantheae ; {R}ubiaceae ; {F}rench {G}uiana ; {N}eotropics ; lectotypification ; {GUYANE} {FRANCAISE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{A}dansonia}, volume = {34}, numero = {2}, pages = {353--363}, ISSN = {1280-8571}, year = {2012}, DOI = {10.5252/a2012n2a9}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010058860}, }
