(for {L}iza falcipinnis), {P}arachelon gen. nov. (for {L} grandisquamis) and {P}seudomyxus gen. nov. (for {M}yxus capensis). {G}enus {C}helon was shown to include exclusively {C}helon spp. and {L}iza spp. from the {A}tlantic and the {M}editerranean, and {L}iza spp. species endemic to eastern southern {A}frica. {G}enus {C}renimugil should now include {C} crenilabis, {M}oolgarda seheli and {V}. buchanani. {G}enus names {L}iza, {M}oolgarda, {P}aramugil, {V}alamugil and {X}enomugil should be abandoned because they are no longer valid. {F}urther genetic evidence is required to confirm or infirm the validity of the genus {P}aracrenimugil {S}enou 1988. {T}he mitochondrial phylogeny of the 25 genera from the present revision is the following: [({S}icamugil, ({M}inimugil, {R}hinomugil)); {T}rachystoma; (({M}yxus, {N}eomyxus), ({C}estraeus, {C}haenomugil, ({A}gonostomus, {D}ajaus, {J}oturus), {M}ugil)); ({A}ldrichetta, {G}racilimugil); {N}eochelon gen. nov.; ({P}seudomyxus gen. nov., ({C}helon, {O}edalechilus, {P}laniliza, {P}arachelon gen. nov.)); (({S}qualomugil, ({E}llochelon, {P}licomugil)), ({C}renimugil, {O}steomugil))]. {A}gonostomus monticola and several species with large distribution ranges (including {M}oolgarda seheli, {M}ugil cephalus and {M}. curema) consist of separate lineages whose geographic distribution suggests they are cryptic species, thus warranting further taxonomic work in the {M}ugilidae at the infra-generic level.}, keywords = {{P}araphyly ; {P}olyphyly ; {T}axonomy ; {S}ystematics ; {N}omenclature}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{C}omptes {R}endus {B}iologies}, volume = {335}, numero = {10-11}, pages = {687--697}, ISSN = {1631-0691}, year = {2012}, DOI = {10.1016/j.crvi.2012.09.005}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010058239}, }
