@article{fdi:010058236, title = {{P}roteome of {A}edes aegypti in response to infection and coinfection with microsporidian parasites}, author = {{D}uncan, {A}. {B}. and {A}gnew, {P}. and {N}o{\¨e}l, {V}. and {D}emettre, {E}. and {S}eveno, {M}. and {B}rizard, {J}ean-{P}aul and {M}ichalakis, {Y}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{H}osts are frequently infected with more than one parasite or pathogen at any one time, but little is known as to how they respond to multiple immune challenges compared to those involving single infections. {W}e investigated the proteome of {A}edes aegypti larvae following infection with either {E}dhazardia aedis or {V}avraia culicis, and coinfections involving both. {T}hey are both obligate intracellular parasites belonging to the phylum microsporidia and infect natural populations of {A}e. aegypti. {T}he results found some proteins only showing modified abundance in response to infections involving {E}. aedis, while others were only differentially abundant when infections involved {V}. culicis. {S}ome proteins only responded with modified abundance to the coinfection condition, while others were differentially abundant in response to all three types of infection. {A}s time since infection increased, the response to each of the single parasite infections diverged, while the response to the {E}. aedis and coinfection treatments converged. {S}ome of the proteins differentially abundant in response to infection were identified. {T}hey included two vacuolar {ATP}ases, proteins known to have a role in determining the infection success of intracellular parasites. {T}his result suggests microsporidia could influence the infection success of other intracellular pathogens infecting vector species of mosquito, including viruses, {P}lasmodium and {W}olbachia.}, keywords = {{A}edes aegypti ; coinfection ; dengue ; {E}dhazardia aedis ; proteome ; {V}avraia culicis}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{E}cology and {E}volution}, volume = {2}, numero = {4}, pages = {681--694}, ISSN = {2045-7758}, year = {2012}, DOI = {10.1002/ece3.199}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010058236}, }
