  abstract = {{E}nterovirus-positive samples diagnosed in {M}arseille ({J}anuary 2009 to {S}eptember 2011) were screened for {EV}71 by real-time {RT}-{PCR}. {EV}71 was detected in three children below the age of 2 years with no history of overseas travel; two of these cases were associated with severe clinical presentation. {V}iruses demonstrated genetic similarity to other {E}uropean genogroup {C}2 strains. {S}train {MRS}/09/3663 complete sequencing revealed 97.6% identity across the entire genome with a 2008 {S}ingapore isolate, without signs of possible recombination events. {T}o our knowledge, this is the first detection of {EV}71 infection in {M}arseille, {F}rance, that confirms the current circulation of {EV}71 in {F}rance.},
