@article{fdi:010057306, title = {{N}ovel insect-specific flavivirus isolated from northern {E}urope}, author = {{H}uhtamo, {E}. and {M}oureau, {G}r{\'e}gory and {C}ook, {S}. and {J}ulkunen, {O}. and {P}utkuri, {N}. and {K}urkela, {S}. and {U}zcategui, {N}. {Y}. and {H}arbach, {R}. {E}. and {G}ould, {E}. {A}. and {V}apalahti, {O}. and {D}e {L}amballerie, {X}avier}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{M}osquitoes collected in {F}inland were screened for flaviviral {RNA} leading to the discovery and isolation of a novel flavivirus designated {H}anko virus ({HANKV}). {V}irus characterization, including phylogenetic analysis of the complete coding sequence, confirmed {HANKV} as a member of the "insect-specific" flavivirus ({ISF}) group. {HANKV} is the first member of this group isolated from northern {E}urope, and therefore the first northern {E}uropean {ISF} for which the complete coding sequence has been determined. {HANKV} was not transcribed as {DNA} in mosquito cell culture, which appears atypical for an {ISF}. {HANKV} shared highest sequence homology with the partial {NS}5 sequence available for the recently discovered {S}panish {O}chlerotatus flavivirus ({SO}c{FV}). {R}etrospective analysis of mitochondrial sequences from the virus-positive mosquito pool suggested an {O}chlerotatus mosquito species as the most likely host for {HANKV}. {HANKV} and {SO}c{FV} may therefore represent a novel group of {O}chlerotatus-hosted insect-specific flaviviruses in {E}urope and further afield.}, keywords = {{M}osquito ; {F}lavivirus ; {I}nsect-specific flavivirus}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{V}irology}, volume = {433}, numero = {2}, pages = {471--478}, ISSN = {0042-6822}, year = {2012}, DOI = {10.1016/j.virol.2012.08.038}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010057306}, }
