@article{fdi:010057016, title = {{T}op 10 plant pathogenic bacteria in molecular plant pathology}, author = {{M}ansfield, {J}. and {G}enin, {S}. and {M}agori, {S}. and {C}itovsky, {V}. and {S}riariyanum, {M}. and {R}onald, {P}. and {D}ow, {M}. and {V}erdier, {V}al{\'e}rie and {B}eer, {S}. {V}. and {M}achado, {M}. {A}. and {T}oth, {I}. and {S}almond, {G}. and {F}oster, {G}. {D}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{M}any plant bacteriologists, if not all, feel that their particular microbe should appear in any list of the most important bacterial plant pathogens. {H}owever, to our knowledge, no such list exists. {T}he aim of this review was to survey all bacterial pathologists with an association with the journal {M}olecular {P}lant {P}athology and ask them to nominate the bacterial pathogens they would place in a {T}op 10 based on scientific/economic importance. {T}he survey generated 458 votes from the international community, and allowed the construction of a {T}op 10 bacterial plant pathogen list. {T}he list includes, in rank order: (1) {P}seudomonas syringae pathovars; (2) {R}alstonia solanacearum; (3) {A}grobacterium tumefaciens; (4) {X}anthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae; (5) {X}anthomonas campestris pathovars; (6) {X}anthomonas axonopodis pathovars; (7) {E}rwinia amylovora; (8) {X}ylella fastidiosa; (9) {D}ickeya (dadantii and solani); (10) {P}ectobacterium carotovorum (and {P}ectobacterium atrosepticum). {B}acteria garnering honourable mentions for just missing out on the {T}op 10 include {C}lavibacter michiganensis (michiganensis and sepedonicus), {P}seudomonas savastanoi and {C}andidatus {L}iberibacter asiaticus. {T}his review article presents a short section on each bacterium in the {T}op 10 list and its importance, with the intention of initiating discussion and debate amongst the plant bacteriology community, as well as laying down a benchmark. {I}t will be interesting to see, in future years, how perceptions change and which bacterial pathogens enter and leave the {T}op 10.}, keywords = {}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{M}olecular {P}lant {P}athology}, volume = {13}, numero = {6}, pages = {614--629}, ISSN = {1464-6722}, year = {2012}, DOI = {10.1111/j.1364-3703.2012.00804.x}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010057016}, }
