@article{fdi:010055999, title = {{P}hylogenetic inference of {N}ew {C}aledonian lineages of {S}apindaceae : molecular evidence requires a reassessment of generic circumscriptions}, author = {{B}uerki, {S}. and {F}orest, {F}. and {C}allmander, {M}. {W}. and {L}owry, {P}. {P}. and {D}evey, {D}. {S}. and {M}unzinger, {J}{\'e}r{\^o}me}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{S}apindaceae ({S}apindales) are a conspicuous and diversified element of the {N}ew {C}aledonian flora, with ca. 67 species (ca. 90% endemic) in 13 genera (four endemic: {G}ongrodiscus, {L}oxodiscus, {P}odonephelium, {S}torthocalyx). {T}he phylogeny of {N}ew {C}aledonian {S}apindaceae is inferred by adding 97 new samples, encompassing the full distributional and morphological range of the archipelago's genera, to a broad plastid and nuclear {DNA} sequence dataset that is representative of the family worldwide. {R}esults from phylogenetic analyses indicate that members of the family on {N}ew {C}aledonia belong to two major clades, the {D}odonaea group (placed within subfamily {D}odonaeoideae) and the {C}upania group (subfamily {S}apindoideae), which exhibit strikingly different species diversities (ca. 89% of the species on {N}ew {C}aledonia belong to the {C}upania group). {R}esults support the monophyly of all four endemic genera and most of those that also occur elsewhere, with the exception of the morphologically similar {A}ustro-{P}acific genera {A}rytera and {C}upaniopsis, both of which have representatives in each of two well-supported subclades within the {C}upania group, suggesting at least two dispersals to {N}ew {C}aledonia (most likely from {A}ustralia). {T}he results provide a robust phylogenetic framework for ongoing taxonomic revisions of {S}apindaceae genera on {N}ew {C}aledonia and for investigating the spatio-temporal history of the family in this biogeographically intriguing archipelago, although expanded sampling (including from other areas) and further analyses will be required to resolve generic limits among the taxa currently placed in {A}t:wet-a and {C}upaniopsis.}, keywords = {{C}upania group ; {D}odonaea group ; {N}ew {C}aledonia ; phylogenetic inference ; polyphyly ; {S}apindaceae}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{T}axon}, volume = {61}, numero = {1}, pages = {109--119}, ISSN = {0040-0262}, year = {2012}, DOI = {10.1002/tax.611008}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010055999}, }
