  abstract = {{O}ligocene to {Q}uaternary deposits from the {O}riente {A}mazonian foreland basin ({E}cuador and {P}eru) were analyzed for major and trace element geochemistry (46 and 32 samples respectively) and {N}d-{S}r isotopic systematics (n = 10). {C}hemical {I}ndex of {A}lteration values lower than those of other {A}mazonian foreland basin sediments and scattering along the {AK} join in the {A}-{CN}-{K} diagram indicate that the {O}riente foreland basin has been continuously fed by poorly to moderately weathered sediments having an overall {A}ndesitic composition since the {O}ligocene. {C}hemical ratios such as {C}r/{T}h and {T}h/{S}c as well as {E}u anomaly and {N}d-{S}r isotopic compositions indicate that most of the analyzed sediments contained a greater proportion of volcanic arc rock material than the other {A}mazonian foreland basin sediments. {W}hen compared with the older sediments {T}he {Q}uaternary sediments are characterized by a greater contribution of the volcanic arc source. {T}he composition of the sediments deposited in the {E}cuadorian {A}mazonian foreland basin is mainly controlled by geodynamic processes. {W}e suspect the {L}ate {P}liocene-{P}leistocene subduction of the {C}arnegie ridge to be responsible for the back arc volcanism feeding the {A}mazonian foreland with more basic materials. {I}nput of young {E}cuadorian volcanic rocks may explain the difference in {S}r and {N}d isotopic ratios of suspended sediments between the {S}olimoes and the {M}adeira rivers.},
