@article{fdi:010055883, title = {{A} 13-lipoxygenase is expressed early in the hypersensitive reaction of cotton plants to {X}anthomonas campestris pv. malvacearum}, author = {{S}anier, {C}. and {S}ayegh-{A}lhamdia, {M}. and {J}alloul, {A}. and {C}l{\'e}rivet, {A}lain and {N}icole, {M}ichel and {M}armey, {P}hilippe}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{L}ipoxygenases ({LOX}s) are enzymes responsible for lipid peroxidation processes during plant defence responses to pathogen infection. {J}asmonates are lipid-derived signals that mediate plant stress responses with chloroplastic {LOX}s implicated in the biosynthesis of oxylipins like jasmonic acid ({JA}). {H}ypersensitive reaction ({HR}) cell death of cotton to the incompatible race 18 of {X}anthomonas campestris pathovar malvacearum ({X}cm) is associated with 9{S}-lipoxygenase activity and expression of a 9-{LOX} {G}h{LOX}1. {H}ere, we report the cloning of cotton ({G}ossypium hirsutum {L}.) {LOX} gene {G}h{LOX}2. {S}equence analysis showed that {G}h{LOX}2 is a putative 13-{LOX} with a chloroplast-transit peptide in the amino acid terminus. {G}h{LOX}2 was found to be significantly expressed in the first hour of {X}cm-induced {HR}. {I}nvestigation into {LOX} signalization on cotyledons incubated with methyl-jasmonate ({M}e{JA}) or infiltrated with salicylic acid ({SA}) or ethylene ({ET}) revealed that the first two treatments induced {G}h{LOX}2 gene expression. {O}ur results show that {G}h{LOX}2 gene expression occurred at the stage of the {HR} prior biochemical events previously highlighted. {T}he role that {G}h{LOX}2 may have in the defence strategy of cotton to {X}cm is discussed regarding the {HR}.}, keywords = {lipoxygenase ; {X}anthomonas ; {G}ossypium hirsutum ; bacterial blight ; hypersensitive reaction ; jasmonic acid ; salicylic acid ; ethylene}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{J}ournal of {P}hytopathology}, volume = {160}, numero = {6}, pages = {286--293}, ISSN = {0931-1785}, year = {2012}, DOI = {10.1111/j.1439-0434.2012.01900.x}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010055883}, }
