@article{fdi:010054505, title = {{A} molecular and morphological survey of generic limits of {A}csmithia and {S}piraeanthemum ({C}unoniaceae)}, author = {{P}illon, {Y}ohan and {H}opkins, {H}. {C}. {E}. and {M}unzinger, {J}{\'e}r{\^o}me and {C}hase, {M}. {W}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A} phylogenetic analysis was conducted on the tribe {S}piraeanthemeae ({C}unoniaceae) to clarify relationships of {A}csmithia and {S}piraeanthemum. {T}hree molecular markers, one plastid region (trn{L}, intron and trn{L}-trn{F} intergenic spacer) and two nuclear single copy genes (ncp{GS} and {PHYC}), were sequenced for this purpose. {T}he independent analysis of the three markers and a combined analysis all showed that {A}csmithia is paraphyletic since {S}piraeanthemum is nested within it. {A} morphological survey of all species in the tribe confirmed the existence of two groups within {A}csmithia. {O}ne comprises the species from {A}ustralia, {N}ew {G}uinea, and {A}. densiflora from {N}ew {C}aledonia and is characterised by multiple ovules per carpel. {T}he other group contains all the remaining {N}ew {C}aledonian species {P}lus {A}. vitiensis from {F}iji and is characterized by a single ovule per carpel. {T}he study shows that characters previously used to distinguish {A}csmithia and {S}piraenthemum, phyllotaxy and sexual system, are homoplasious as in several other groups of {C}unoniaceae. {A} broad circumscription of the genus {S}piraeanthemum is adopted here that includes the species formerly placed in {A}csmithia. {T}wo new combinations are proposed: {S}piraeanthemum collinum and {S}piraeanthemum meridionale. {S}piraeanthemum austrocaledonicum is considered a synonym of {S}piraeanthemum densiflorum.}, keywords = {glutamine synthetase ; {M}elanesia ; {N}ew {C}aledonia ; nuclear single copy ; gene ; phyllotaxy ; sexual system}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{S}ystematic {B}otany}, volume = {34}, numero = {1}, pages = {141--148}, ISSN = {0363-6445}, year = {2009}, DOI = {10.1600/036364409787602410}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010054505}, }
