@article{fdi:010054243, title = {{T}he 2010 {H}aiti earthquake : a complex fault pattern constrained by seismologic and tectonic observations}, author = {{M}ercier de {L}{\'e}pinay, {B}. and {D}eschamps, {A}. and {K}lingelhoefer, {F}. and {M}azabraud, {Y}. and {D}elouis, {B}. and {C}louard, {V}. and {H}ello, {Y}ann and {C}rozon, {J}. and {M}arcaillou, {B}. and {G}raindorge, {D}. and {V}all{\'e}e, {M}artin and {P}errot, {J}. and {B}ouin, {M}. {P}. and {S}aurel, {J}. {M}. and {C}harvis, {P}hilippe and {S}t-{L}ouis, {M}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A}fter the {J}anuary 12, 2010, {H}aiti earthquake, we deployed a mainly offshore temporary network of seismologic stations around the damaged area. {T}he distribution of the recorded aftershocks, together with morphotectonic observations and mainshock analysis, allow us to constrain a complex fault pattern in the area. {A}lmost all of the aftershocks have a {N}-{S} compressive mechanism, and not the expected left-lateral strike-slip mechanism. {A} first-order slip model of the mainshock shows a {N}264 degrees {E} north-dipping plane, with a major left-lateral component and a strong reverse component. {A}s the aftershock distribution is sub-parallel and close to the {E}nriquillo fault, we assume that although the cause of the catastrophe was not a rupture along the {E}nriquillo fault, this fault had an important role as a mechanical boundary. {T}he azimuth of the focal planes of the aftershocks are parallel to the north-dipping faults of the {T}ranshaitian {B}elt, which suggests a triggering of failure on these discontinuities. {I}n the western part, the aftershock distribution reflects the triggering of slip on similar faults, and/or, alternatively, of the south-dipping faults, such the {T}rois-{B}aies submarine fault. {T}hese observations are in agreement with a model of an oblique collision of an indenter of the oceanic crust of the {S}outhern {P}eninsula and the sedimentary wedge of the {T}ranshaitian {B}elt.}, keywords = {}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{G}eophysical {R}esearch {L}etters}, volume = {38}, numero = {}, pages = {{L}22305}, ISSN = {0094-8276}, year = {2011}, DOI = {10.1029/2011{GL}049799}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010054243}, }
