@article{fdi:010054194, title = {{P}hotosynthetic {B}radyrhizobium sp. strain {ORS}285 synthesizes 2-{O}-methylfucosylated lipochitooligosaccharides for nod gene-dependent interaction with {A}eschynomene plants}, author = {{R}enier, {A}. and {M}aillet, {F}. and {F}ardoux, {J}o{\¨e}l and {P}oinsot, {V}. and {G}iraud, {E}ric and {N}ouwen, {N}ico}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{B}radyrhizobium sp. strain {ORS}285 is a photosynthetic bacterium that forms nitrogen-fixing nodules on the roots and stems of tropical aquatic legumes of the {A}eschynomene genus. {T}he symbiotic interaction of {B}radyrhizobium sp. strain {ORS}285 with certain {A}eschynomene spp. depends on the presence of nodulation (nod) genes whereas the interaction with other species is nod gene independent. {T}o study the nod gene-dependent molecular dialogue between {B}radyrhizobium sp. strain {ORS}285 and {A}eschynomene spp., we used a nod{B}-lac{Z} reporter strain to monitor the nod gene expression with various flavonoids. {T}he flavanones liquiritigenin and naringenin were found to be the strongest inducers of nod gene expression. {C}hemical analysis of the culture supernatant of cells grown in the presence of naringenin showed that the major {N}od factor produced by {B}radyrhizobium sp. strain {ORS}285 is a modified chitin pentasaccharide molecule with a terminal {N}-{C}-18:1-glucosamine and with a 2-{O}-methyl fucose linked to {C}-6 of the reducing glucosamine. {I}n this respect, the {B}radyrhizobium sp. strain {ORS}285 {N}od factor is the same as the major {N}od factor produced by the nonphotosynthetic {B}radyrhizobium japonicum {USDA}110 that nodulates the roots of soybean. {T}his suggests a classic nod gene-dependent molecular dialogue between {B}radyrhizobium sp. strain {ORS}285 and certain {A}eschynomene spp. {T}his is supported by the fact that {B}. japonicum {USDA}110 is able to form {N}-2-fixing nodules on both the roots and stems of {A}eschynomene afraspera.}, keywords = {}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{M}olecular {P}lant-{M}icrobe {I}nteractions}, volume = {24}, numero = {12}, pages = {1440--1447}, ISSN = {0894-0282}, year = {2011}, DOI = {10.1094/mpmi-05-11-0104}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010054194}, }
