({S}olanaceae)] crops was characterized at the molecular and biological level. {R}estriction endonuclease analysis identified this isolate as a novel {P}. operculella granulovirus ({P}hop{GV}) ({B}aculoviridae: {B}etabaculovirus) strain and was designated as {P}hop{GV}-{CR}1. {I}n addition, {PCR} amplification of four specific variable genomic regions yielded multiple amplicons for two open reading frames, revealing the presence of different genotypic variants within the virus population. {B}iologically, {P}hop{GV}-{CR}1 was highly pathogenic for its two indigenous hosts, although significant differences of up to four-fold were detected against {P}. operculella [{LD}50 = 17.9 occlusion bodies ({OB}s) mm)(-2)] and {T}ecia solanivora ({P}ovolny) ({L}epidoptera: {G}ele-chiidae) ({LD}50 = 69.1 {OB}s mm)(-2)). {T}he two {P}. operculella colonies, from {C}osta {R}ica and {F}rance, were equally susceptible to {P}hop{GV}-{CR}1. {S}erial passage of {P}hop{GV}-{CR}1 over four generations in {T}. solanivora increased its pathogenicity by five-fold in three generations, suggesting an ongoing adaptation to its alternate host.}, keywords = {microbial control ; adaptation to host ; {P}hop{GV} ; {B}aculoviridae ; {L}epidoptera ; {G}elechiidae ; tuberworm ; integrated pest management ; {B}etabaculovirus}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{E}ntomologia {E}xperimentalis et {A}pplicata}, volume = {140}, numero = {3}, pages = {238--246}, ISSN = {0013-8703}, year = {2011}, DOI = {10.1111/j.1570-7458.2011.01156.x}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010053740}, }
