@article{fdi:010053708, title = {{T}he mid-rivera-transform discordance : morphology and tectonic development}, author = {{B}andy, {W}.{L}. and {M}ichaud, {F}ran{\c{c}}ois and {G}utierrez, {C}.{A}.{M}. and {D}yment, {J}. and {B}ourgois, {J}. and {R}oyer, {J}.{Y}. and {C}almus, {T}. and {S}osson, {M}. and {O}rtega-{R}amirez, {J}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}o better define the morphotectonic elements and tectonic development of the {M}id-{R}ivera-{T}ransform {D}iscordance, multibeam bathymetric, seafloor backscatter, multichannel seismic reflection and total field marine magnetic data were collected along the entire {R}ivera {T}ransform west of 107{A} degrees {W} during the {BART} and {FAMEX} campaigns of the {N}.{O}. {L}'{A}talante conducted in 2002. {T}hese data show that, although the transform tectonized zone of the {R}ivera {T}ransform west of 107{A} degrees 30'{W} is a single continuous morphologic basin, this basin consists of two distinct morphotectonic domains: an eastern domain which morphologically is a deep rhombochasm within which organized seafloor spreading has occurred, and a western 'leaky transform' domain. {T}hese new data, in conjunction with the results of previous studies, support the idea that the {R}ivera-{P}acific {E}uler pole is migrating southward towards the eastern half of the {R}ivera {T}ransform, and further indicate a recent (< 0.14 {M}a), and most likely ongoing, clockwise reorganization of the principle transform displacement zones of the {R}ivera {T}ransform west of 108{A} degrees {W}. {W}e propose that the {M}id-{R}ivera-{T}ransform {D}iscordance owes its origin to this eastward progressing, clockwise reorganization of the transform segments that is occurring in response to recent changes in {R}ivera-{P}acific relative plate motion.}, keywords = {{R}ivera {T}ransform ; {P}late motions ; {M}orphology ; {M}ulti-beam bathymetry}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{P}ure and {A}pplied {G}eophysics}, volume = {168}, numero = {8-9}, pages = {1391--1413}, ISSN = {0033-4553}, year = {2011}, DOI = {10.1007/s00024-010-0208-8}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010053708}, }
