@article{fdi:010053616, title = {{I}solation, phylogeny and evolution of the {S}ym{RK} gene in the legume genus {L}upinus {L}.}, author = {{M}ah{\'e}, {F}. and {M}arkova, {D}. and {P}asquet, {R}emy and {M}isset, {M}. {T}. and {A}inouche, {A}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{S}ym{RK} is one of the key genes involved in initial steps of legume symbiotic association with fungi (mycorrhization) and nitrogen-fixing bacteria (nodulation). {A} large portion of the sequence encoding the extracellular domain of {SYMRK} was obtained for 38 lupine accessions and 2 outgroups in order to characterize this region, to evaluate its phylogenetic utility, and to examine whether its molecular evolutionary pattern is correlated with rhizobial diversity and specificity in {L}upinus. {T}he data suggested that, in {L}upinus, {S}ym{RK} is a single copy gene that shows good phylogenetic potential. {A}ccordingly. {S}ym{RK} provided additional support to previous molecular phylogenies, and shed additional light on relationships within the {O}ld {W}orld group of {L}upinus, especially among the {A}frican species. {S}imilar to results of other studies, analyses of {S}ym{RK} sequences were unable to resolve placement of the {F}lorida unifoliolate lineage, whose relationship was weakly supported to either the {O}ld or the {N}ew {W}orld lupines. {O}ur data are consistent with strong purifying selection operating on {S}ym{RK} in {L}upinus, preserving rather than diversifying its function. {T}hus, although {S}ym{RK} was demonstrated to be a vital gene in the early stages of the root-bacterial symbiotic associations, no evidence from present analyses indicate that this gene is involved in changes in rhizobial specificity in {L}upinus.}, keywords = {{S}ym{RK} gene ; {M}olecular evolution ; {L}upinus phylogeny}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{M}olecular {P}hylogenetics and {E}volution}, volume = {60}, numero = {1}, pages = {49--61}, ISSN = {1055-7903}, year = {2011}, DOI = {10.1016/j.ympev.2011.04.017}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010053616}, }
