@article{fdi:010053577, title = {{C}haracterizing a complex aquifer system using geophysics, hydrodynamics and geochemistry : a new distribution of {M}iocene aquifers in the {Z}eramdine and {M}ahdia-{J}ebeniana blocks (east-central {T}unisia)}, author = {{L}achaal, {F}. and {B}edir, {M}. and {T}arhouni, {J}. and {B}en {G}acha, {A}. and {L}educ, {C}hristian}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he {Z}eramdine and {M}andia-jebeniana blocks are located in the {S}ahel region in east-central {T}unisia. {A}ctive tectonics have divided the region into numerous sub-units, as result of multiple phases of distension and compression. {T}he {M}iocene fluvio-deltaic sediment sandy layers have aquiferous capacities but their hydraulic properties are still unknown, due to the lack of investigation wells. {T}his study proposes a new description of the regional hydrogeology of {M}iocene deposits. {S}eismic-reflection and wireline logging of petroleum and water wells were used to understand the structure and the geometry of the {M}iocene reservoirs. {T}he groundwater flow and its relationship to the sedimentary and tectonic context were then identified by studying piezometry and hydrochemistry. {T}wo {M}iocene deep aquifer systems were identified: (1) {Z}eramdine-{B}eni {H}assen to the north and (2) {J}ebeniana-{K}sour {E}ssef to the south. {T}hese aquifers are separated by the {M}andia graben. {O}ther major tectonic structures, such as the {Z}eramdine fault corridor, the {M}oknine graben, and the {E}l-jem half-graben represent lateral boundaries for these aquifers. {O}ther deeper sandy and clayey-sandy reservoirs were also identified in the area. {T}heir repartition, thickness and depth vary from one block to other. {H}ydrodynamics of the deep aquifers seems to be controlled by geological structures. {T}wo independent compartments were identified: in the northern block groundwater flows from {W}est to {E}ast and from {N}orthwest to {S}outheast, while in the southern block it flows from {N}orthwest to {S}outheast. {G}eochemical facies are of two types: {N}a-{C}a-{C}l-{SO}4 for the {Z}eramdine-{B}eni {H}assen deep aquifer and {N}a-{C}l for the jebeniana-{K}sour {E}ssef deep aquifer. {T}he hydrodynamic and geochemical results confirm the sharing of the {M}iocene sediments into two aquifers.}, keywords = {{A}quifer ; {S}eismic reflection ; {W}ireline logging ; {T}ectonics ; {P}iezometric head ; {T}unisia}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{J}ournal of {A}frican {E}arth {S}ciences}, volume = {60}, numero = {4}, pages = {222--236}, ISSN = {1464-343{X}}, year = {2011}, DOI = {10.1016/j.jafrearsci.2011.03.003}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010053577}, }
