  abstract = {{T}he {N}eotropical genus {B}orojoa {C}uatrec. ({R}ubiaceae) is now considered a synonym of {A}libertia {A}. {R}ich. ex {DC}. {C}onsequently, three species named in {B}orojoa and found in {C}osta {R}ica and {P}anama are transferred to {A}libertia with these corresponding nomenclatural changes: the new combination {A}. atlantica ({D}wyer) {D}elprete & {C}. {H}. {P}erss. is based on {B}. atlantica {D}wyer, the new name {A}. dwyeri {D}elprete & {C}. {H}. {P}erss. is provided for {B}. panamensis {D}wyer, and the new combination {A}. patinoi ({C}uatrec.) {D}elprete & {C}. {H}. {P}erss. is provided for {B}. patinoi {C}uatrec. {A}dditionally, the species {A}. premontana {C}. {M}. {T}aylor is reduced to a variety of {A}. (quits ({R}ich.) {A}. {R}ich. ex {DC}., as {A}. edulis var. premontana ({C}. {M}. {T}aylor) {D}elprete & {C}. {H}. {P}erss. {A} lectotype is selected for {A}. edulis. {T}he recent publication of {A}rachnothryx chimalaparam {L}orence ex {B}orhidi designated a holotype deposited at {MO}, but no such specimen has been located; a lectotype is here chosen based on a duplicate of the holotype deposited at {MEXU}. {T}he new species {N}otopleura recondita {H}ammel & {C}. {M}. {T}aylor of the {O}sa {P}eninsula of {C}osta {R}ica can be distinguished from polyphlebia ({D}onn. {S}m.) {C}. {M}. {T}aylor by its leaf blades with the secondary veins plane on the adaxial surface and its short cymose or paniculiform inflorescences. {T}he new species {P}alicourea matamana {C}. {M}. {T}aylor of premontane forests of central-eastern {C}osta {R}ica can be separated from {P}. orosiana {C}. {M}. {T}aylor by its larger stipules, longer calyx lobes, and hirsute pubescence. {T}he new species {P}. providenciana {J}. {S}anchez-{G}onz. & {C}. {M}. {T}aylor of montane forests in south-central {C}osta {R}ica can be separated from {P}. hammelii {C}. {M}. {T}aylor by its longer lanceolate stipule lobes, dark purple or yellow-flushed inflorescences, and shorter calyx lobes. {T}he {P}anamanian plants treated previously as {P}sychotria acuminata subsp. boraginoides {D}wyer are here considered to differ at the species level from {P}. acuminata {B}enth., and accordingly the new combination {P}. boraginoides ({D}wyer) {C}. {M}. {T}aylor is here published for this species. {C}larification of the identity of {C}ephaelis croatii {D}wyer shows that it is a distinct species of {P}sychotria, and the new combination {P}. croatii ({D}wyer) {C}. {M}. {T}aylor is published here for this species. {T}he new species {P}. herrerana {C}. {M}. {T}aylor of central {C}osta {R}ica can be recognized by its combination of large, sessile, elliptic leaves, its large paniculiform inflorescences, and its relatively small corollas. {S}tudy of the {C}osta {R}ican plants previously called {R}udgea thyrsiflora {D}onn. {S}m. shows that these do not have the characters of {R}udgea, but are similar to {P}sychotria racemosa {R}ich, and better included in this latter genus; the new name {P}. tsakiana {C}. {M}. {T}aylor is here published for this species. {T}he new combination {S}imira panamensis ({D}wyer) {C}. {M}. {T}aylor is published here based on the name {B}athysa panamensis {D}wyer, which has priority over the name {S}. darienensis {D}wyer; both of the names {D}wyer published are based on the same type specimen, thus the later name {S}. darienensis is illegitimate.},
