@article{fdi:010052730, title = {{I}dentification, characterization, and distribution of southern rice black-streaked dwarf virus in {V}ietnam}, author = {{H}oang, {A}. {T}. and {Z}hang, {H}. {M}. and {Y}ang, {J}. and {C}hen, {J}. {P}. and {H}{\'e}brard, {E}ug{\'e}nie and {Z}hou, {G}. {H}. and {V}ien, {V}. {N}. and {C}heng, {J}. {A}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A} novel dwarf and twisting syndrome first observed on rice in {N}ghe {A}n {P}rovince, {V}ietnam, in 2009 has spread rapidly to the other 19 provinces of {N}orth and {C}entral {V}ietnam. {I}nfected rice plants showed stunting, darkening of leaves, twisting of leaf tips, and splitting of leaf margins. {A}t a later stage, white waxy enations that eventually turned black were observed on the underside of leaf blades, leaf sheaths, and culms. {T}he disease also infected maize after rice was harvested. {I}nfected maize plants were stunted and dark green with small citations along the minor veins on the back of leaves. {T}he disease agent has now been identified as {S}outhern rice black-streaked dwarf virus ({SRBSDV}) recently reported from {S}outhern {C}hina. {T}ypical fijivirus viroplasms containing crystalline arrayed spherical virions approximately 70 to 75 nm in diameter were observed under the electron microscope in ultrathin sections of infected rice leaves. {T}he virus was transmitted to rice and maize seedlings by the white-backed planthopper ({S}ogatella furcimera). {A} one-step reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction ({RTPCR}) protocol was used to confirm the presence of {SRBSDV} in 477 samples of rice or maize from 29 provinces among 5 agroecological regions in {N}orth and {C}entral {V}ietnam. {R}ice black-streaked dwarf virus was not detected in these samples. {P}artial sequences of {RNA} segments 4 and 10 from several isolates showed very low genetic divergences between isolates from {V}ietnam and {C}hina, suggesting a common origin, and phylogenetic analysis confirmed the placement of {SRBSDV} as a distinct virus within subgroup 2 of the genus {F}ijivirus.}, keywords = {}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{P}lant {D}isease}, volume = {95}, numero = {9}, pages = {1063--1069}, ISSN = {0191-2917}, year = {2011}, DOI = {10.1094/pdis-07-10-0535}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010052730}, }
