@article{fdi:010049520, title = {{A}nalyses of precipitation, temperature and evapotranspiration in a {F}rench {M}editerranean region in the context of climate change}, author = {{C}haouche, {K}. and {N}eppel, {L}. and {D}ieulin, {C}laudine and {P}ujol, {N}. and {L}adouche, {B}. and {M}artin, {E}. and {S}alas, {D}. and {C}aballero, {Y}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}his study is focused on the western part of the {F}rench {M}editerranean area, namely the {P}yrenees-{O}rientales and {A}ude administrative departments. {T}he water resources (surface and groundwater) in the region are sensitive to climate change. {T}he study addresses the question of whether any trend in the annual and monthly series of temperature, rainfall and potential evapotranspiration ({PET}) already appears at the scale of this region. {T}wo data sources have been used: (a) direct local measurements using the meteorological network; and (b) spatially interpolated data from the {F}rench weather service model {SAFRAN} for the period 1970-2006. {T}he non-parametric {M}ann-{K}endall test was applied to identify significant trends at the local scale and, because of the natural spatial variability of the {M}editerranean climate, regional interpretation was also performed. {T}he trends observed in the 13 catchments of interest are consistent with those observed at a larger scale. {A}n increase in annual mean temperature and annual {PET} was observed throughout the study area, whereas annual precipitation has not exhibited any trend. {T}he monthly scale has revealed strong seasonal variability in trend. {T}he trend for an increase in monthly {PET} has been observed mainly in the spring, and has not been seen in the coastal areas. {A} trend for an increase in monthly temperature has been observed in {J}une and in the spring throughout the entire area. {M}onthly rainfall has been found to decrease in {J}une and increase in {N}ovember throughout the area. {T}he significant trends observed in rainfall and temperature seem to be consistent between the different data sources.}, keywords = {{T}rend detection ; {R}ainfall ; {T}emperature ; {E}vapotranspiration ; {C}limate ; change ; {M}editerranean region ; {F}rance}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{C}omptes {R}endus {G}eoscience}, volume = {342}, numero = {3}, pages = {234--243}, ISSN = {1631-0713}, year = {2010}, DOI = {10.1016/j.crte.2010.02.001}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010049520}, }
