@article{fdi:010049512, title = {{I}dentification of a second major resistance gene to {R}ice yellow mottle virus, {RYMV}2, in the {A}frican cultivated rice species, {O}. glaberrima}, author = {{T}hi{\'e}m{\'e}l{\'e}, {D}eless and {B}oisnard, {A}rnaud and {N}djiondjop, {M}. {N}. and {C}h{\'e}ron, {S}ophie and {S}{\'e}r{\'e}, {Y}. and {A}k{\'e}, {S}. and {G}hesqui{\`e}re, {A}lain and {A}lbar, {L}aurence}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{R}ice yellow mottle virus ({RYMV}) is the most damaging rice-infecting virus in {A}frica. {H}owever, few sources of high resistance and only a single major resistance gene, {RYMV}1, are known to date. {W}e screened a large representative collection of {A}frican cultivated rice ({O}ryza glaberrima) for {RYMV} resistance. {W}hereas high resistance is known to be very rare in {A}sian cultivated rice ({O}ryza sativa), we identified 29 (8%) highly resistant accessions in {O}. glaberrima. {T}he {MIF}4{G} domain of {RYMV}1 was sequenced in these accessions. {S}ome accessions possessed the rymv1-3 or rymv1-4 recessive resistance alleles previously described in {O}. glaberrima {T}og5681 and {T}og5672, respectively, and a new allele, rymv1-5, was identified, thereby increasing the number of resistance alleles in {O}. glaberrima to three. {I}n contrast, only a single allele has been reported in {O}. sativa. {M}arkers specific to the different alleles of the {RYMV}1 gene were developed for marker-assisted selection of resistant genotypes for disease management. {I}n addition, the presence of the dominant susceptibility allele ({R}ymv1-1) in 15 resistant accessions suggests that their resistance is under different genetic control. {A}n allelism test involving one of those accessions revealed a second major resistance gene, i.e., {RYMV}2. {T}he diversity of resistance genes against {RYMV} in {O}. glaberrima species is discussed in relation to the diversification of the virus in {A}frica.}, keywords = {}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{T}heoretical and {A}pplied {G}enetics}, volume = {121}, numero = {1}, pages = {169--179}, ISSN = {0040-5752}, year = {2010}, DOI = {10.1007/s00122-010-1300-2}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010049512}, }
