  abstract = {{T}his work is not intended to be a complete review of all publications about entomology in {E}cuador. {I}t compiles the history of entomology in {E}cuador in a chronological order. {I}t first provides observations about the influence of pre-{C}olumbian cultures and the cultural heritage of indigenous populations. {I}t then presents the contribution of the {S}panish conquest and colonization chroniclers, the specialists that described {A}merican species during the {R}enaissance period and the great scientific expeditions. {F}inally the birth of {E}cuadorian entomology as a science is described with the creation of institutes for applied research and the {E}cuadorian museums of entomology.},
