@article{fdi:010049164, title = {{M}odelling atmospheric and induced non-tidal oceanic loading contributions to surface gravity and tilt measurements}, author = {{B}oy, {J}. {P}. and {L}onguevergne, {L}. and {B}oudin, {F}. and {J}acob, {T}. and {L}yard, {F}. and {L}lubes, {M}. and {F}lorsch, {N}icolas and {E}snoult, {M}. {F}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{W}e investigate the contribution of atmospheric and its induced non-tidal oceanic loading effects on surface time-varying gravity and tilt measurements for several stations in {W}estern {E}urope. {T}he ocean response to pressure forcing can be modelled accordingly to the inverted barometer, i.e. assuming that air pressure variations are fully compensated by static sea height changes, or using ocean general circulation models. {W}e validate two runs of the {HUGO}-m barotropic ocean model by comparing predicted sea surface height variations with hundred tide-gauge measurements along the {E}uropean coasts. {W}e then show that global surface pressure field, as well as a barotropic high-resolution ocean model forced by air pressure and winds allow in most cases a significant reduction of the variance of gravity residuals and, to a smaller extends tilt residuals. {W}e finally show that precise gravity measurements with superconducting gravimeters allow the observation of large storm surges, occurring in the {N}orth {S}ea, even for inland stations. {H}owever, we also confirm that the continental hydrology contribution cannot be neglected. {T}hanks to their specific sensitivity feature, only tiltmeters closest to the coast can clearly detect the loading due to these storm surges.}, keywords = {{A}tmospheric loading ; {N}on-tidal oceanic loading ; {S}uperconducting gravimeters ; {H}ydrostatic tiltmeters ; {S}torm surges}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{J}ournal of {G}eodynamics}, volume = {48}, numero = {3-5}, pages = {182--188}, ISSN = {0264-3707}, year = {2009}, DOI = {10.1016/j.jog.2009.09.022}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010049164}, }
