@article{fdi:010048402, title = {{T}a'ta', {H}uayan i : perception of leishmaniasis and evaluation of medicinal plants used by the {C}hayahuita in {P}eru. {P}art {II}}, author = {{O}donne, {G}uillaume and {B}ourdy, {G}enevi{\`e}ve and {C}astillo, {D}. and {E}stevez, {Y}annick and {L}ancha-{T}angoa, {A}. and {A}lban-{C}astillo, {J}. and {D}eharo, {E}ric and {R}ojas, {R}. and {S}tien, {D}. and {S}auvain, {M}ichel}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A}im of the study : {A} knowledge attitude and practice study centred on leishmaniasis and its treatment was performed among the {C}hayahuita, in {A}mazonian {P}eruvian ethnic group living in ail endemic area. {T}his study documents traditional {C}hayahuita plant's use and disease concepts. {A}lso, activity of some medicinal {P}lants {U}sed by the {C}hayahuita is highlighted and discussed. {M}aterials and methods: {N}inety-three {C}hayahuita people were interviewed, following a semi-structured questionnaire focussed oil disease knowledge and perception, personal attitude and healing practices. {S}imultaneously, a collection of plants was performed in different ecotopes, in order to make ail extensive inventory of the pharmacopoeia. {R}esults: {F}or the {C}hayahuita, cutaneous ({CL}) and muco-cutaneous leishmaniasis ({MCL}) are considered as diseases of their own, with specific names, aetiologics, mode of transmission. {R}egarding {CL}, {C}hayahuita people consider that the humid characteristic of the {S}kill ulcer is a discriminative fact orienting the diagnostic for {T}a'ta' (leishmaniasis). {F}orty-six different species were designated useful against {LC} and /or {MCL} (29 species by means of the questionnaire and 27 species when collecting in different ecotopes). {T}hirty-seven extracts corresponding to 31 {S}pecies used medicinally were screened in vitro against {L}eishmania amazonensis axenic amastigotes, assessing their viability by the reduction {O}f tetrazolium salt ({MTT}). {S}ix species displayed a good activity (10 mu g/ml < {IC}50 < 20 mu g/ml): all undetermined hemi-epiphytic {C}lusiaceae. {C}ybianthus anthuriophyllus {P}ipoly ({M}yrsinaceae), two {P}iper, {P}iper sanguineispicum {T}rel., and {P}iper loretoanum {T}rel. ({P}iperaceae), {D}esmodium axillare {S}w. {DC}.
