  abstract = {{M}ont {P}anie, the highest mountain on {N}ew {C}aledonia, has a rich and distinctive flora. {A} new species was recently collected and is here described in the genus {S}ymplocos ({S}ymplocaccae), which is now represented by seven species in {N}ew {C}aledonia, all endemic. {S}ymplocos paniensis {P}illon & {N}ooteboom, sp. nov. is most similar to {S}. neocaledonica ({V}ieill.) {N}ooteboom, from which it differs by its shorter leaves with rounded apex, and the more even disposition of the leaves along the twigs. {T}his provides further evidence that the {M}ont {P}anie chain, which also includes {M}ont {C}olnert and {M}ont {I}gnambi, is still under-collected.},
