@article{fdi:010046238, title = {{G}ut-specific actinobacterial community structure and diversity associated with the wood-feeding termite species, {N}asutitermes corniger ({M}otschulsky) described by nested {PCR}-{DGGE} analysis}, author = {{L}ef{\`e}bvre, {T}homas and {M}iambi, {E}. and {P}ando, {A}nne and {D}iouf, {M}ichel and {R}ouland {L}ef{\`e}vre, {C}orinne}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}his comprehensive survey studied the actinobacterial community structure and putative representative members associated with the gut of the wood-feeding termite, {N}asutitermes corniger ({M}otschulsky), using nested {PCR}-{DGGE} and 16{S} r{DNA} sequences analyses. {T}he closest relatives of the actinobacteria inhabiting the gut of {N}asutitermes corniger were in five families, regardless of the geographical origin of the termite colony: {P}ropionibacteriaceae, {S}treptomycetaceae, {C}ellulomonodaceae, {C}orynebacteriaceae and {R}ubrobacteraceae. {F}eeding termites on beech wood did not result in substantial changes in the actinobacterial community structure as revealed by {DGGE} banding patterns. {M}ost of the 16{S} r{DNA} sequences obtained after excision and sequencing of {DGGE} bands clustered with those previously retrieved in termite guts. {T}hese results confirm the presence of gut-specific actinobacteria. {E}xcept for the 16{S} r{DNA} sequences affiliated to {S}treptomycetaceae and {C}ellulomonodaceae, no sequence had more than 97% similarity with the closest isolated strains, indicating the presence of microorganisms that have not yet been cultivated. {T}hese results suggest that members of the {A}ctinomycetales order account for the largest proportion of the {A}ctinobacteria phylum inhabiting the gut of the termite {N}. corniger.}, keywords = {{A}ctinomycetes ; {T}ermite gut ; {N}ested {PCR} ; {DGGE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{I}nsectes {S}ociaux}, volume = {56}, numero = {3}, pages = {269--276}, ISSN = {0020-1812}, year = {2009}, DOI = {10.1007/s00040-009-0020-6}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010046238}, }
