@article{fdi:010046114, title = {{G}eomorphic evidence for recent uplift of the {F}itzcarrald {A}rch ({P}eru) : a response to the {N}azca {R}idge subduction}, author = {{R}egard, {V}. and {L}agnous, {R}. and {E}spurt, {N}icolas and {D}arrozes, {J}. and {B}aby, {P}atrice and {R}oddaz, {M}. and {C}alderon, {Y}. and {H}ermoza, {W}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he 400 000 km(2)-wide {F}itzcarrald {A}rch constitutes a wide topographic high of the {A}mazon {B}asin against the central {A}ndes. {I}n order to constrain its formation mechanisms and in particular to test its relationships to the {N}azca ridge subduction, a quantitative geomorphology analysis of the {A}rch is performed using hypsometric integrals, elongation and azimuths of 7th- and 5th-order catchments. {T}hey all express a trend from high maturity to low maturity from {NW} towards {SE}. {T}his maturity gradient coupled with the local drainage direction demonstrate that the {F}itzcarrald {A}rch is not a 'classical' alluvial fan, since its apex is located 100 km east to the {S}ubandean {T}hrust {F}ront and the corresponding sedimentary pile is lacking. {N}or is the {A}rch the superficial expression of an inherited transfer zone, because its geomorphic shape is radial and it does not diverge from a symmetry axis; moreover, such a reactivated structure is not found at depth on seismic profiles. {I}n addition, our data show that underlying geomorphic control on catchment initiation and development has progressed from {NW} to {SE}, which in combination with the observation of crustal doming by {E}spurt et al.
