  abstract = {{T}he aim of this study was to characterise the remarkable architectural development of the orchid species {C}hrysoglossum ornatum {B}lume. {L}iving specimens were collected in two sites in {L}aos, a country where this species had not been recorded before. {E}xamination of herbarium material of the three other species of {C}hrysoglossum has confirmed the regularity of this growth pattern at the genus level. {S}uch a vegetative architecture, unique within the plant kingdom, was first described by {B}arthelemy (1987) for a {S}outh {A}merican orchid species. {G}ongora quinquenervis {R}uiz and {P}av. {T}he nature of this growth pattern within the genus {C}hrysoglossum and within this particular species, as well as the occurrence of similar patterns in the {O}rchidaceae is discussed. {T}o cite this article: {P} {B}onnet et al., {C}. {R}. {B}iologies 332 (2009).},
