@article{fdi:010044300, title = {{C}haracterization of {H}alanaerobaculum tunisiense gen. nov., sp nov., a new halophilic fermentative, strictly anaerobic bacterium isolated from a hypersaline lake in {T}unisia}, author = {{H}edi, {A}. and {F}ardeau, {M}arie-{L}aure and {S}adfi, {N}. and {B}oudabous, {A}. and {O}llivier, {B}ernard and {C}ayol, {J}ean-{L}uc}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A} new halophilic anaerobe was isolated from the hypersaline surface sediments of {E}l-{D}jerid {C}hott, {T}unisia. {T}he isolate, designated as strain 6{SANG}, grew at {N}a{C}l concentrations ranging from 14 to 30%, with an optimum at 20-22%. {S}train 6{SANG} was a non-spore-forming, non-motile, rod-shaped bacterium, appearing singly, in pairs, or occasionally as long chains (0.7-1 x 4-13 mu m) and showed a {G}ram-negative-like cell wall pattern. {I}t grew optimally at p{H} values between 7.2 and 7.4, but had a very broad p{H} range for growth (5.9-8.4). {O}ptimum temperature for growth was 42{A} degrees {C} (range 30-50{A} degrees {C}). {S}train 6{SANG} required yeast extract for growth on sugars. {G}lucose, sucrose, galactose, mannose, maltose, cellobiose, pyruvate, and starch were fermented. {T}he end products from glucose fermentation were acetate, butyrate, lactate, {H}-2, and {CO}2. {T}he {G} + {C} ratio of the {DNA} was 34.3 mol%. {S}train 6{SANG} exhibited 16{S} r{RNA} gene sequence similarity values of 91-92% with members of the genus {H}alobacteroides, {H}. halobius being its closest phylogenetic relative. {B}ased on phenotypic and phylogenetic characteristics, we propose that this bacterium be classified as a novel species of a novel genus, {H}alanaerobaculum tunisiense gen. nov., sp. nov. {T}he type strain is 6{SANG}({T}) (={DSM} 19997({T}) = {JCM} 15060({T})).}, keywords = {{H}alanaerobaculum tunisiense ; {H}alanaerobiales ; {A}naerobic ; {E}xtreme ; halophilic}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{E}xtremophiles}, volume = {13}, numero = {2}, pages = {313--319}, ISSN = {1431-0651}, year = {2009}, DOI = {10.1007/s00792-008-0218-y}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010044300}, }
