@article{fdi:010042452, title = {{R}edescription of {M}etabronema magnum ({N}ematoda : {C}ystidicolidae), a swimbladder parasite of the carangid fish {G}nathanodon speciosus off {N}ew {C}aledonia}, author = {{M}oravec, {F}. and {J}ustine, {J}ean-{L}ou}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he cystidicolid nematode {M}etabronema magnum ({T}aylor, 1925) is redescribed from specimens collected from the swimbladder of the fish (golden trevally) {G}nathanodon speciosus ({F}orsskal) ({C}arangidae, {P}erciformes) off {N}ew {C}aledonia, {S}outh {P}acific (a new geographical record). {T}he light and scanning electron microscopical examination made it possible to study in detail the morphology of this so far little-known species. {I}ts pseudolabia were found to possess distinct anterior protrusions (protuberances), sublabia are absent, only four cephalic papillae are present, deirids are bifurcated, and the male possesses six pairs of postanal papillae. {B}y its morphology, {M}. magnum seems to be most similar to species of {S}alvelinema {T}rofimenko, 1962, also from the swimbladder of fishes, differing from them mainly in the presence of median wedge-shaped outgrowths in the mouth, lateral alae, the longer spicule on the right side, and a fewer number of pairs of preanal papillae in the male. {S}ince the morphology of {M}. magnum considerably differs from that of other representatives of the {C}ystidicolidae, {M}etabronema in {R}asheed's (1966) conception is considered a valid genus.}, keywords = {parasitic nematode ; {M}etabronema ; morphology ; marine fish ; {G}nathanodon ; {N}ew {C}aledonia}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{F}olia {P}arasitologica}, volume = {54}, numero = {4}, pages = {293--300}, ISSN = {0015-5683}, year = {2007}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010042452}, }
