  abstract = {{T}he aim of this study is to investigate the diversity of {R}etama raetam root-nodule bacteria isolated from and regions of {T}unisia. {T}welve isolates, chosen as representative for different 16{S} r{RNA} gene patterns, were characterized by 16{S} r{RNA} gene sequencing and phenotypic analysis. {I}solates were assigned to {S}inorhizobium, {R}hizobium and {A}grobacterium. {S}ymbiotic properties of {S}inorhizobium and {R}hizobium isolates showed a large diversity in their capacity to infect their host plant and fix atmospheric nitrogen. {S}train {RK} 22 identified as {R}hizobium was the most effective isolate.},
