@article{fdi:010040951, title = {{F}loodplain hydrology in an {A}mazon floodplain lake ({L}ago {G}rande de {C}uruai)}, author = {{B}onnet, {M}arie-{P}aule and {B}arroux, {G}w{\'e}na{\¨e}l and {M}artinez, {J}ean-{M}ichel and {S}eyler, {F}r{\'e}d{\'e}rique and {M}oreira {T}urcq, {P}atricia and {C}ochonneau, {G}{\'e}rard and {M}elack, {J}. {M}. and {B}oaventura, {G}. and {M}aurice {B}ourgoin, {L}aurence and {L}eon, {J}. {G}. and {R}oux, {E}mmanuel and {C}almant, {S}t{\'e}phane and {K}osuth, {P}. and {G}uyot, {J}ean-{L}oup and {S}eyler, {P}atrick}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he floodplains of the {A}mazon basin influence the hydrology and fluxes of suspended solids and solutes on multiple scales. {O}ur study focused on the floodplain of {L}ago {G}rande de {C}uruai ({O}bidos, {B}razil), a 4000 km(2) segment of floodplain and local upland catchment representative of the lower {A}mazon. {B}ased on in situ and satellite data acquired from 1997 to 2003, we calculated the exchanges of water between the floodplain and the river and determined the temporal dynamics of flooded area water derived from river flooding, rainfall, runoff, and exchange with groundwater annually for six years. {T}he {A}mazon {R}iver dominated the inputs of water to the flooded area year-round, accounting about 77% of the annual total inputs; rainfall and runoff accounted for about 9% and 10%, respectively, while seepage from the groundwater system accounted for 4%. {T}he hydrologic residence time of the take was about three months, and the floodplain made a net contribution of water to the river. {T}he exported volume (net balance between water input and tosses) varied between 4.2 and 7.3 km(3) depending on the year and represented about 0.75 times the maximal storage reached each year.}, keywords = {}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{J}ournal of {H}ydrology}, volume = {349}, numero = {1-2}, pages = {18--30}, ISSN = {0022-1694}, year = {2008}, DOI = {10.1016/j.jhydrol.2007.10.055}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010040951}, }
