@article{fdi:010037821, title = {{R}elationships between abiotic soil factors and epidemiology of the biocontrol bacterium {P}asteuria penetrans in a root-knot nematode {M}eloidogyne javanica-infested field}, author = {{D}abir{\'e}, {R}och {K}. and {N}diaye, {S}. and {M}ounport, {D}. and {M}ateille, {T}hierry}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he epidemiology of {P}asteuria penetrans, parasite of {M}eloidogyne javanica, was studied in a field cultivated with an {A}frican egg-plant ({S}olanum aethiopicum) in {S}enegal. {A}biotic and biological parameters were analyzed from 100 soil samples. {S}oil physical characteristics were studied with principal component analysis ({PCA}). {S}imilarity between the parameters according to biotic and abiotic variables was established by hierarchical classification and corroborated by {D}iscrimin analysis ({AFD}). {T}he coarser fractions (> 200 mu m) were positively correlated to intensive irrigation, whereas finest fractions (< 20 mu m) and spores of {P}. penetrans were abundant in the areas moderately irrigated. {F}urthermore, the proportion of {P}asteuria-infected juveniles was positively correlated to the presence of finest texture and high water holding capacity. {T}he abundance of {M}. javanica was associated with coarse sands and potassium. {B}ased on these results, laboratory experiments were attempted on the influence of irrigation and soil texture on the distribution of {P}. penetrans in cultivated and bare soils. {T}he results showed that 53% of the spores inoculated were leached by water flow in the sandy soil, but only 14% in the sandy-clay soil and 0.1% in the clay soil. {N}o nematodes survived in the clay soil, while the population increased both in the sandy and the sandy-clay soils. {M}ore {M}. javanica were infected by {P}. penetrans in the sandy-clay soil than in the sandy soil. {C}omparing different combinations of bare soils containing 1.1-57% clay, the best spore percolation/retention balance occurred in soils textured with 10-30% clay.}, keywords = {plant parasitic nematodes ; {M}eloidogyne javanica ; {P}asteuria penetrans ; soil abiotic factors ; relationships}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{B}iological {C}ontrol}, volume = {40}, numero = {1}, pages = {22--29}, ISSN = {1049-9644}, year = {2007}, DOI = {10.1016/j.biocontrol.2006.08.001}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010037821}, }
