@article{fdi:010037820, title = {{A} phylogeny of {D}rosophilidae using the {A}myrel gene : questioning the {D}rosophila melanogaster species group boundaries}, author = {{D}a {L}age, {J}. {L}. and {K}ergoat, {G}. {J}. and {M}aczkowiak, {F}. and {S}ilvain, {J}ean-{F}ran{\c{c}}ois and {C}ariou, {M}. {L}. and {L}achaise, {D}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{I}n this study, the phylogenetic relationships of 164 species of the family {D}rosophilidae are discussed, using the {A}myrel gene, a member of the alpha-amylase multigene family. {T}his study focuses on numerous species groups in the subgenera {S}ophophora and {D}rosophila of the genus {D}rosophila but also includes other closely related genera. {N}ucleotide data were analysed by several methods: maximum parsimony, neighbour joining, maximum likelihood and {B}ayesian inference. {H}eterogeneity of base composition (mainly low {GC} contents in the species groups willistoni and saltans) has been addressed. {I}n all analyses, the genus {D}rosophila appeared paraphyletic. {T}he subgenus {S}ophophora clearly appeared to be a monophyletic group, showing well-resolved clades, with the {N}eotropical groups arising in a basal position. {H}ere, it is proposed to raise the species subgroups ananassae and montium to the rank of species group, and to restrict the melanogaster species group to the melanogaster subgroup plus the '{O}riental' subgroups, among which the suzukii subgroup is polyphyletic. {S}ome related genera such as {Z}aprionus, {L}iodrosophila, {S}captomyza and {H}irtodrosophila are clustered with, or inside the subgenus {D}rosophila, which is therefore paraphyletic and should be reviewed.}, keywords = {molecular phylogeny ; {Z}aprionus ; ananassae species group ; montium species group ; base composition bias ; {S}ophophora}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{J}ournal of {Z}oological {S}ystematics and {E}volutionary {R}esearch}, volume = {45}, numero = {1}, pages = {47--63}, ISSN = {0947-5745}, year = {2007}, DOI = {10.1111/j.1439-0469.2006.00389.x}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010037820}, }
