@article{fdi:010036721, title = {{A}ssessment of coastal lagoon quality with taxonomic diversity indices of fish, zoobenthos and macrophyte communities}, author = {{M}ouillot, {D}. and {L}aune, {J}. and {T}omasini, {J}.{A}. and {A}liaume, {C}. and {B}rehmer, {P}atrice and {D}utrieux, {E}. and {C}hi, {T}.{D}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{L}agoons and marshes account for more than 50% of the coastal area in the {L}anguedoc {R}oussillon region ({S}outh of {F}rance, {M}editerranean {S}ea). {T}he lagoons are very different in their physical and chemical characteristics, eutrophication level and resource exploitation mode. {I}n this study, different levels of taxonomic diversity and two indices ({D}elta(+) and {L}ambda(+)) based on macrophyte, zoobenthos and fish communities are used to compare three lagoons ({I}ngril, {P}revost and {M}augulo). {W}hilst the taxonomic diversity of the fish community seems not influenced by the lagoon characteristics, the benthos community is strongly related to their eutrophication status. {W}ith the same sampling effort we identified 7 benthic species in {M}augulo, the most impacted lagoon, while 24 species were found in the {I}ngril lagoon, which is the less impacted one. {O}verall, the variance of taxonomic distinctness {L}ambda(+) appeared as the best indicator of the lagoon eutrophication level. {T}his index is always highest for the {M}auguio lagoon, whatever the biotic compartment considered. {I}n a more stable environment like in the {I}ngril lagoon (lower variations of salinity, temperature or turbidity), {L}ambda(+) is low, i.e., the structure of the taxonomic tree is very regular with a relatively homogeneous partition of species among phyla. {B}y contrast, when salinity variations are wide, like in the {M}auguio lagoon, the taxonomic tree becomes irregular with some lineages less constrained (many species belonging to the same family), while others are more impacted with a limited number of species in these phyla.}, keywords = {coastal lagoon ; quality ; diversity indices ; fish ; zoobenthos ; macrophytes}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{H}ydrobiologia}, volume = {550}, numero = {}, pages = {121--130}, ISSN = {0018-8158}, year = {2005}, DOI = {10.1007/s10750-005-4368-y}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010036721}, }
