  abstract = {{T}he deltas are the major rice bowls of {A}sia. {T}hey combine high population densities with intensive agriculture. {A}gricultural activities are strongly shaped by the hydrologic regime, its floods, low flows in the dry-season and the tidal effect. {T}heir historical development seen in terms of settlements, cultural origin and socio-political formation are nevertheless contrasting. {T}his paper attempts to highlight a few commonalities of the {R}ed {R}iver, {M}ekong and {C}hao {P}hraya deltas, together with their main discrepancies. {I}t thus provides a comparative perspective on the {C}hao {P}hraya delta and helps sketching out its particularities.
